Those Who Labor

Profiles in Church Planting

Each Labor Day, we remember all who faithfully work to make our communities better. We would like to highlight for you some qualities of a faithful church planter in the Philippines.

Humble and Teachable

Doming serves among the squatters that live along the railroad tracks. Adults work long hours just to get food for the day, have no time to listen to God’s Word. Doming humbly teaches their children instead. Everything he learns from our training, he pours into these children. He believes that in just a few years, these children can become the adult leaders of the church he is planting.

Flexible and Anchored

Junie moved his family to a city eight hours away from his hometown, so he could help churches there develop their youth ministries. Each time we have church planter training, you will see Junie playing his guitar and leading worship.

Junie is also doing all of the wiring for the new church and camp under construction. Though he wears many hats, when it is time for Evangelism Camp, Junie can be relied on to help direct this vital ministry.

Innovative and Focused

Thom found that women are more interested in hearing the gospel than men. To attract men to his Bible studies, he used his electronics background to create an apprenticeship to train men to repair fans, TV’s and air conditioners. Before each training session, Thom first shares the gospel.

Resilient and Grateful

Rico has served the same church for over twenty years. His area floods regularly during rainy season, yet he always has a ready smile. You would not guess that his home recently collapsed, eaten through by termites. God has recently provided Rico with a new home, through the support of God’s people. Now, Rico’s smile is one of gratitude.

Full of Faith and Faithful

Our co-worker, Pastor Diawa, is always ready to see the potential in a new disciple. He believes God will help these men and women stand on their own and be fruitful. He faithfully serves them until they grow into the faithful workers he believed God wanted to make of them. As churches multiply, his responsibility for all of these workers multiplies as well, yet he remains a faithful servant to all.

Hopeful and Determined

God has given us a solid hope that the Word of God we teach will change lives. We trust the Holy Spirit to mature each church planter in Christ until they have this same hope. We are determined to pass on this confidence in God’s Word to another generation of church planters. Thank you for having that same hope, and for determining to labor with us by your prayers and support to see it accomplished.

Servants together,
David & Joy
