“My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
– Jesus
It is easier to carry somebody else’s load than to carry your own. When we redefine our own burden as a burden we are carrying for somebody else, it suddenly becomes lighter. In the last week, as we preached to the elderly, it was to help carry their burdens. When we taught a Filipino Bible study, it was to prepare them to carry their burdens. As we cared for parents, helped widows and single moms, it was their burdens that we lifted. As we taught Filipino church planters online, and then prepared to join them in the Philippines (February 10), it was to help strengthen them and lift them up. Serving this way, not only has our burden been lightened, but God has used each of these people to help us carry our burden training church planters in the Philippines.

The Lord’s Burden – It is the Lord’s burden, not ours. Even though we need $30,000 to finish building the dormitory for Christ Connection Camp, the need is not our burden. We are only workers on Christ’s crew. He will provide the funds and materials to finish the work He has started (in time for camp in May, we pray). It is God’s burden of love we bear as we pray with Filipino pastors for those whose hearts have not yet turned to Christ. God has laid on Himself the burden to provide for the families of these workers. We bear that burden by asking Him to honor His promise to provide for their daily needs and emergency expenses. Our part in bearing this burden is to provide church planter training free of charge, and to help as we can with medical needs.
The Lord’s Promise – It is no burden for us to help care for Joy’s Mom and Dad with Mom’s cancer. God has promised that as her days, so shall her strength be. As her body is breaking down, her spirit grows stronger! We look forward with her to one day receiving new bodies with Christ that can never decay, and so we are glad to lighten their burden of weekly cancer treatments.

The Lord’s Goal – If our goal is to only carry our own burden, then serving anyone else is an obstacle to avoid. Our goal is to train disciples of our burden bearer, Jesus Christ. Each burden we carry for others in humble dependence on the Holy Spirit helps us reach our goal. As we bear the burdens of others, we demonstrate our own weakness and God’s power to each Filipino we train. They are watching, and learning to carry each other’s burdens, as well as ours. It is a light burden to serve with them, for they carry the burden with us!

Are we stretched thin at times? Yes. Are we weighed down? No. As we cast our burdens on the Lord, He sustains us. He even gives us grace to carry the burdens of others. That is exactly what you are doing as you pray for us and support us financially. We thank you!
