Dear Praying Folks,
4 AM Wednesday morning, on the way to the Manila airport, our taxi driver said, “If you had tried to fly out yesterday at this time, these streets were flooded knee deep from Typhoon Lanni and tropical storm Maring, and we could not get to the airport.”
If we had flown out the day before, we thought, Hurricane Irma had just passed through our connecting hub in Atlanta, where 900 flights had been cancelled. A day later, and North Korea was shooting off another missile over Japan where we had to fly. God knew all of this back in July when we bought our tickets, so He changed our flight from Tuesday to Wednesday. We flew home with clear skies, and no delays, thanks to God’s unerring providence!
God provided for this trip a rental car at half the price (from a believer in Manila), one plane ticket and our hotel room paid in full. He also provided extra opportunities for Joy to counsel pastor’s wives. for us to teach a Love, Courtship and Marriage seminar to youth from three churches, and 6 evangelistic Bible studies. All of this was in addition to preaching, church planter training, and a wonderful celebration of 25 years for the church in Mangaldan
While there, we canvassed the area we are looking at for our next church planting focus. This young church outside Malasiqui is praying for $40,000 for land to move the church to a strategic location in the center of town, where they are accessible to more of the town population. Please also pray for God to provide $16,000 for a van for our church planting ministry. The current van our ministry is using is 20 years old, and well used. It needs a complete engine overhaul, and broke down again while we were there this time. We thank God for Jeff, a capable driver/mechanic in our church planting ministry!
Thank you for praying for Joy. Though still in significant pain, she made the trip without any additional problems with her broken shoulder.
David & Joy
