Dear Praying Folks,
Our coworker, Pastor Diawa, contacted us yesterday from the Philippines to ask for prayer. The Philippines is being hit by a typhoon about three times “bigger, stronger, and more dangerous” than Hurricane Florence, according to CNN. Typhoon Mangkhut (called Typhoon Ompong in the Philippines) will make landfall north and east of our ministry area on the island of Luzon, Friday evening our time. This is a super typhoon, (like a Category 5 hurricane), with tropical storm force winds extending from the southernmost part of the Philippines northward as far as Taiwan. This places our ministry area in the direct path of very strong winds and heavy flooding. The last time a super typhoon hit the Philippines in 2013, over 6000 people died and 1.9 million people were made homeless. Thankfully, the path of this storm is through an area not as densely populated, but it is coming at the beginning of rice and corn harvest, which will be devastating. Each time you pray for folks in the way of Hurricane Florence, please remember to pray for the Philippines. Also, this Sunday is the 26th anniversary of the church at Mangaldan. Praise God with us for this milestone in their ministry!
