Within the first minute of an online Zoom meeting from Alabama to the Philippines, we know if we have a good internet connection. With a poor connection, we strain to hear and understand each other, as words are garbled or dropped altogether. It leaves us wondering how much of our message has been received. When the connection is good, we can see and hear each other, and communicate clearly. We connect with each other in ways we could not do even in person, as people from many different locations interact together at the same time.

On a typical Zoom call, I am able to connect with my co-worker in Pangasinan province. At the same time, he is able to connect with his son, a church planter in Tarlac province. His son is able to connect with men he is training in other church plant areas, as well as a couple of men who work abroad in Taiwan and Toronto. On one call, we make all of these vital connections, and many more. On our first church planter training session via Zoom, we connected to 17 different locations at once. This saved us the 2-8 hour bus rides to visit workers in the mountains of Isabella or Baguio, or the rural towns of San Jose or Malasiqui. For these workers, isolated by geography and pandemic restrictions, this regular meeting time with other church planters is just the encouragement they need as they keep serving so faithfully.
In all of our training times, we emphasize the vital connection we each need to maintain with our Father in heaven through Jesus Christ. Due to covid-19 restrictions, we are even more aware of our dependence on God for life and grace to fulfill His mission for us. We have seen God give grace to save those who are turning to Christ in this time of distress, and relief funds to bring food to the needy.
In all of this, we thank God for the vital connection we have with you. Some of you have not only maintained your prayers and financial support, you have increased it during this challenging time. Those of you who can no longer give continue to pray faithfully. Each of you has been an encouragement to us that what we are doing is part of something much bigger than ourselves. What we do together will continue to have eternal purpose beyond the crisis of a moment in time.
Because of our living connection to Jesus Christ, we are forever connected to you. Through us, you are connected to our brothers and sisters in the Philippines, and to the local churches they plant and serve. By God’s grace, we are keeping this vital connection alive, whether in person, or online.

Servants together,
