Jesus sent us to make disciples, promising to be with us always. He makes His presence felt by the timing of His provision, His peace, and His protection. That is what we felt as we traveled for three weeks to share with potential partners about the work of the Church Planting Institute in the Philippines. Our very first stop was at our son Daniel and Miriam’s church in Ohio that has since agreed to support our ministry. The timing of this new support confirmed Christ’s presence with us in our work, even when a relative and long-time supporter suddenly passed away a week or so later. After Ohio, we visited Mom Weaver and David’s home church in New York.
A supporting church in Baltimore has struggled, and is now being revitalized. We got to know the new pastor, and to develop a new bond with church family we have known for years. As we told them of the struggles Filipino church planters face, they understood, because they are going through the same struggles in their church. We left them with peace that Christ, who is with our Filipino families, is also with them as they depend on the Holy Spirit to renew their church.
We prayed for Christ’s presence and protection on I-95, as cars flew past us, bumper-to-bumper in the pouring rain. Four accident delays later, we arrived safely at our next stop. All of this travel did not prevent us from teaching CPI online. All we needed was an internet connection and a quiet room at the home of friends. When the early morning training session was finished, we said our goodbyes and drove on to see missionary friends who support us. For once, we were both on the same side of the world and could visit! We arrived home after three thousand miles with less than three weeks to prepare for the next trip. October 19th will be the first training trip to the Philippines since Covid lock downs. The day we bought the airline tickets, the Covid testing requirement for travelers was dropped, saving us hundreds of dollars. Christ is with us and prepares the way before us.
Thank you for being part of God’s faithfulness to us by your prayers, and through your financial support as God provides for your needs. May Christ’s presence with you be as real as it has been for us. We are already thanking God for His provision, peace and protection for you through Christ, who is “with you always, even to the end of the age.”
